The problem: wet grass and a trailer that might move
A client with a 30-foot Starcraft on a rural lot was stepping onto soaked grass every morning. They wanted a proper landing off the trailer steps, but not a permanent structure — the trailer might relocate one day, and nobody wanted to dig footings for it.
Ground-level platform on concrete deck blocks
Instead of poured footings, the 12×20 pressure-treated frame sits on concrete deck blocks on levelled ground. Nothing is buried, so there’s nothing to rot, and the whole platform can be moved if the trailer does. It also means no permit delay and no excavation cost.
Joists at 12 inches, not 16
Most decks are framed at 16-inch centres. We went to 12. It costs a few more 2×8s, but the boards never flex underfoot — the difference between a deck that feels solid for twenty years and one that feels spongy in five. Ask any deck quote: “what’s your joist spacing?”

Deck boards screwed (not nailed) so they never lift, then the edges trimmed in one clean pass. Stain it next spring once the wood has dried out.
